Summertime tree care

Summer holidays are a great time for us to sit outside and enjoy the lovely gardens we put so much effort into maintaining throughout the year. Whether it’s Christmas lunch, a family barbecue, or an afternoon of relaxing in the sun, we want to be sure that our gardens are summer ready and looking grand.

Summertime tree care 3 The last thing we want to be doing, especially with a thousand things to do between now and Christmas, is yard work in the sweltering heat. So let us take care of the sweaty side of things, leaving you free to enjoy the great outdoors cool and worry-free!

To make things even easier for you, here’s a short list of things you may want to consider getting your yard and trees ready for the summer holidays.

General pruning and shaping. While we want to be a bit more conservative with pruning coming into hotter weather, there’s still plenty we can do to shape, uplift, deadwood and thin trees as needed. Whether it’s for aesthetics, to increase sunlight and airflow or to correct structural defects, a skilled arborist easily balances appropriate pruning with retaining the necessary canopy to protect the tree against sunburn.

Fire risk reduction. Vegetation near our homes, especially dead trees, shrubs or branches may contribute to increased fire risk. Removal of any vegetation that may catch or spread fire should be considered top priority, particularly if you live in a bush-fire prone area.

Reduce debris build-up in gutters. Another tick in the box of fire-readiness is keeping our gutters clear of vegetation where possible, reducing leaf litter and other debris that far travelling embers have been known to catch in. In most councils, there are exemptions for tree removal permits for trees in close proximity to dwellings, removing one possible obstacle to getting the work done before the holidays.

Of course, there are all kinds of ways we can help improve your yard before the holidays.

So, if your preference is to cross it off your to-do list before then, we recommend booking your tree work now. Secure your spot early and enjoy a stress-free holiday season with a beautifully maintained yard. If not, we’ll be right here ready and keen to help with whatever you may need in the new year!
