Did you know that the tree industry is a completely unregulated industry? This means that anyojne with a chainsaw and a ladder could start a tree business. There is actually no regualtion that such a person would need any formal training, they would not need insurance, or to even know the first thing about a tree… they would effectively just need to know how to start the chainsaw in there hands.
So when it’s time for you to find an arborist to undertake your tree work here is a few things you should be asking or looking into.
Do they have Website? Do they an ABN? Do they have insurance; afterall you are invoting them on to work in and aroud what is most likely the maost valuable asset you have… your home. So don’t just ask if they have insurance make sure you ask to see a certificate of currency, if something goes wrong, you want to know that this trades person has the means to rectify the damages.
Ask them if they are members of any local organisations such as the Victorian Tree Industry Organisation (VTIO) or International society of Arborists.
Make sure to get a written quote and that everything that they promised to do is written on it, itemised and that the price is clear and that it is clear whether the price is inclusive or exclusive of GST.
When doing your initial homework or even after you have recieved your quote, have a look to see whether the company collects reviews and testimonials; are they good bad or indifferent, quality companies that provide consistently high standards of work, will have reviews to back them up and they will be happy to share them with you.
Remember the old saying:
Quality remians even once the price tag has been forgotten.
Often in life you get what you paid for, a cheap price is likely to result in a sub-standard job, don’t let price alone dictate who you choose, often those who charge more can add more value than those that charge less.
Good Luck and choose wisely, I’m sure there is a good arborist not far from you, that would be more than happy to assist you with all your tree work.
